Theory Test
wp5b51b803.png

All theory tests are now taken on “touch screen” computers. The theory test now includes a hazard perception element as well as the multi choice question section. Both sections must be passed at the same time before candidates will be entitled to take the practical test.

When you arrive at the test centre you will be asked for photographic ID. If you have a photocard licence this will be sufficient, otherwise you will need a passport or other acceptable form of identity. If you are dyslexic you will be able to listen to the test being read in English through a headset. The test is also available in other languages.

Candidates will have fifty seven minutes to answer fifty multi choice questions, and the pass mark for this section of the test is forty-three correct answers. After a short break you will be presented with the hazard perception element, which features fourteen video clips containing fifteen developing hazards, which you will have to identify as they appear on screen. The pass mark is 44 out of 75.

The fee for a theory test is £30.00 and tests can be booked by phoning 0300 200 1122. You can also  book online at  www.direct.gov.uk/drivingtest  In both cases you will need your driver number from your driving licence, and will have to pay using  a credit or debit card .

Applications can also be made by post using the form available at all driving test centres.

Theory Training with Drive-Rite.

A theory pack is provided, and once the basics of driving have been taught, you will be asked to answer the progress check questions in your free time, using the Highway Code and Driving The Essential Skills  as your main sources of information. Your answers will then be discussed in car.

The CD-ROM’s and DVD’s available on loan from Drive-Rite simulate the touch screen test, so you will be thoroughly familiar with what is involved before taking your theory test. They are also suitable for those with dyslexia.
